People of the Perperiyankuppam, a village near Neyveli in Cuddalore district, were surprised when their MLA Saba Rajendran joined them in the cleaning works of a temple pond. The lawmaker, along with party cadres and locals, removed the water hyacinth densely grown in the pond.
Rajendran decided to clean the pond after locals complained to him about the unusable state of the pond due to the wholly spread water hyacinth. The invasive plants were later taken to a nearby forest to be dumped.
Locals expressed happiness over the action taken by the MLA. They said they had been unable to use the rainwater tapped in the pond as the plant was spread all over. Even cattle couldn’t use the water, they added.
