A 24-year-old woman journalist tragically died after the car she was travelling in overturned near Kodai Road in Dindigul district on Sunday, say reports. The incident took place when the journalist Shalini, along with four of her colleagues, was returning after visiting a friend’s house in Pallapatti. Tragically,  the journalist died on her birthday.


The four others suffered serious injuries and were taken to a hospital in Dindigul. They were later taken to Rajaji Government Hospital in Madurai for further treatment. While a colleague named Sathish Kumar was critical, others - Gokulraj, Ramkumar and Prabhuraj - are recovering, police reportedly said.


The incident took place near Pottikulam, where Prabhuraj, who was driving the car, lost control. While the car overturned on the roadside, Shalini was thrown out of the car and fell on the roadside. Reportedly, she died on the spot.


Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar have expressed condolences to her death. CM Palaniswami has reportedly announced a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the family of the deceased journalist.
