According to reports, a Bank of India branch in Oil Mill area of Tiruvallur district was robbed of jewellery worth Rs 6 crore. Reportedly, the unidentified persons didn’t break either the walls or the locker. Suspiciously, the persons opened the locker without breaking it and ran away with the jewellery.

Superintendent of Police Sibi Chakravarthy has visited the site and is conducting an inquiry. The branch manager Sekar and the staff are being enquired about the incident. The branch is located atop a supermarket in the area.

However, Rs 25 lakh in cash was not stolen. The incident came to light when the staff opened the branch on Monday after two days’ leave on weekend. Notably, a branch of Indian Overseas Bank in Virugambakkam, Chennai, was robbed of Rs 30 lakh in cash and several sovereigns of jewellery.
