Following the resignation of Yeddyurappa as the Chief Minister of Karnataka before the trust vote in the Assembly, DMK working president MK Stalin congratulated Congress and JD(S). Speaking to presspersons in Puducherry, Stalin said he welcomed the “secular” alliance between Congress and JD(S).
The Tamil Nadu opposition leader also added that the Supreme Court’s actions in the matter have saved the democracy in Karnataka. While Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala had given 15 days deadline for Yeddyurappa to prove his majority in the Assembly, the court reduced it to 24 hours. The apex court ordered that the BJP leader should prove his majority on Saturday during a floor test to be held at 4 pm.
Stalin wrote on Twitter, “Democracy in Karnataka has been saved by the actions of the Supreme Court. I extend my congratulations to @hd_kumaraswamy and @INCIndia. May this herald the coming together of secular parties for the upcoming elections.”
