The Supreme Court on Wednesday reportedly allowed the Tamil Nadu government to open 810 TASMAC liquor shops in the wake of the state government’s order categorising the national and state highways as local roads. The state government had earlier appealed to the top court over the Madras High Court’s order to close 1,700 liquor shops along highways falling under municipal areas.
The apex court had asked the state government to submit a detailed report in connection with the matter. Following which, the state government passed an order re-categorising the national and state highways. In the wake of the government order, the Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the government to open the liquor shops.
