Supreme Court gives special permission for southern states on Diwali

The Tamil Nadu government on Monday urged the Supreme Court to extend bursting of firecrackers on Diwali. Responding to TN's plea, the SC gave special permission for southern states to burst crackers anytime during the day for two hours.

Last week, the SC ruled that firecrackers can be burst only from 8 pm to 10 pm on Diwali as a measure to tackle air pollution. However, TN requested the SC to extend the timings and asked for permission between 4.30 am to 6.30 am as well.

Tamil Nadu will be celebrating Diwali on November 6. The State now has permission to burst crackers anytime for two hours on Diwali along with the allotted timings from 8 pm to 10 pm.
