Police arrested a manager and an assistant manager near of a State Bank of India near Chennai for allegedly defrauding a farmer of Rs 5.13 lakh, say reports. Police have begun an investigation and the duo is being questioned.
The farmer, Ravindranath, from Vichoor near Thiruvottiyur in Chennai had a savings bank account with the SBI branch in Edayanchavadi. He kept saving his hard-earned money from farming by depositing in the bank account. He recently went to the branch with his passbook to get the transactions printed on it.
However, Ravindranath was shocked when he found, from the transactions printed on the passbook, that Rs 5.13 lakh was debited from his account in May. When enquired about it, the manager, Suresh alias Chandran, allegedly didn’t offer a proper reason.
The farmer filed a complaint with Manali police, who started grilling the manager and his assistant Sikhamani. During the investigation, it was revealed that the two swindled the money using technology. Police have reportedly taken them into custody and are probing the matter.
