According to reports, a rowdy named Anandan was shot dead by a police officer after he allegedly attacked a sub-inspector with a weapon and tried to escape on Tuesday. Additional Commissioner of Police MC Sarangan said that assistant commissioner KN Sudarshan fired a round at Anandan near Taramani.

Anandan and his gang members attacked constable Rajavelu and inflicted severe injuries on his head on Monday night when he asked them to disperse without creating a nuisance. They had also snatched the walkie-talkie from him. Rajavelu reportedly received 30 stitches to his head.

Following the incident, a special task force was formed to nab Anandan and others. After getting a tip-off, police caught Anandan and three others near Sholinganallur. Police took him to Taramani where had allegedly hidden the walkie-talkie.

The rowdy dug out the walkie-talkie. However, he had also allegedly dug out a knife and attacked sub-inspector Ilayaraja. When he ignored repeated warnings to drop the weapon and stop the attack, AC Sudarshan allegedly shot at him.

He was rushed to a hospital. However, the rowdy succumbed to injuries. The body was taken to Royapettah government hospital for post-mortem.
