Folks of Kumaretiyapuram submitted a plea to Thootukudi collector Sandeep Nanduri requesting for FIRs to be quashed against those who protested in a peaceful manner against the closure of Sterlite Copper on Monday.
As many as 13 civilians paid with their lives after police fired at them on the 100th day of the protests while many landed in hospitals, some with grave injuries.
In response the district collector opined that no action was taken against those who protested in a lawful manner. However, the aggrieved public seemed to disagree with the explanation provided by the official.
