Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday announced that plastic goods are banned from use and production in the state from January 1, 2019. Speaking in the state assembly on the occasion of World Environment Day (June 5), the Chief Minister, however, added that plastic can be used for essential products such as milk, oil and medical items.
Announcing the ban, CM Palaniswami requested the people and the traders to cooperate with the government’s move in an attempt to create a plastic-free environment.
Pointing out that plastic plays a detrimental role against human lives and their health, the Chief Minister said that people suffer respiratory difficulties on inhaling the toxic gas from burning plastic. He also observed that cattle are suffering a great deal from eating plastics.
