People stone college student to death mistaking him for thief

A college student named Sathasivam was killed by villagers as they mistook him for a thief in the midnight. The incident happened in Thenthandalam village near Thiruvannamalai. Sathasivam went to pick up his friend Ananthan, who was stranded without buses in the midnight, in a two-wheeler, along with two other friends. After picking him up, they were riding via Sumangali village. The friends sped up the bike as the villagers started to chase. However, they started to pelt stones at them. Sathasivam suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead. Later, it was revealed that the village witnessed burglary often and the villagers keep a vigil during night. Hence, when the friends crossed in the bike, the villagers mistook them for thieves.
