As the state death toll rises to 15, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami termed the deadly coronavirus as a "disease of the rich" and a "big challenge". After chairing a meeting of district collectors to discuss the preventive measures taken in the state, he said Tamil Nadu has managed to contain the spread of the virus with daily positive cases showing a decline.

Currently, Tamil Nadu is among the worst affected states in India, with 1,242 cases. Looking at the latest stats, the state reported 25 fresh cases with death toll rising to 15. 

As per news agency PTI, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said, “this disease is a big challenge. It is a disease of the rich. People who had travelled abroad, or to other states have imported it [to Tamil Nadu]. It did not originate here."

He further stated that, the commitee will also discuss on finalising what industries may be allowed to operate after April 20, following Centre permits.

Till date, Tamil Nadu has screened about 87 lakh people in 558 containment zones. Also, the state government had taken an early lead by launching screening of air passengers and placing orders for personal protective equipment.
