The organs of a 23-year-old brain-dead college student were transplanted in five patients in Chennai and Madurai on Tuesday. The boy met with a road accident on March 24 when a vehicle hit his bike and he was declared brain-dead at the hospital yesterday. A green corridor was created from Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre in Madurai to the city's airport and his hearts and lungs were flown to Chennai and transplanted into the recipient patients. Meanwhile, his kidney and liver were transplanted into patients at MMHRC with permission from Tamil Nadu government's transplant authority.
