Four prominent leaders come to Chennai to pay homage to Kalaignar

DMK veteran Dr M Karunanidhi passed away at the Kauvery Hospital on August 7 at 6.10 pm following a decline in his health. The five-time former CM was admitted to the hospital on July 26 following a fever due to urinary tract infection.

 

His body was kept at his residence in Gopalapuram for a few hours and then taken to his residence at CIT Nagar as well. After 3 am, Kalaignar's body was taken to Rajaji Memorial Hall for public view.

 

Many prominent political leaders and film stars visited Rajaji Hall to pay their final respects to the DMK patriarch including CM Edappadi Palaniswami, Deputy CM O Panneerselvam, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Actor Ajith, former Kerala CM Oommen Chandy and Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

 

National leaders including Congress President Rahul Gandhi and regional chief ministers including Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy, Telangana CM Chandrashekar Rao and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal made their way to Chennai to pay their last respects to Kalaignar.
