The incident came to light when the girl was found crying in Marthandam bus stand around midnight on August 20. When a few passersby inquired her whereabouts, she said she wasn’t in a situation to go home. Upon information, the police rescued the girl. That’s when she narrated the ordeal to them.
According to a report by Polimer, the girl belongs to a poor background and was studying 12th grade in a nearby school. She used to travel by bus to school and over time she developed an interest for a guy from the bus. Taking advantage of the situation, the guy invited her home for his birthday party where he allegedly raped her. Another friend of the guy who learned about the incident also raped her.
The two guys later introduced the girl to another friend called Leo Franklin. On August 20, Franklin met the girl after school hours and said he would drop her home in his vehicle. When the girl decided to go with him, he took her to a secluded spot and allegedly raped her. Later, he threatened her against revealing the incident and dropped her at Marthandam bus stand despite the odd time.
After a three-day investigation, the police arrested the three accused under POSCO Act.
