According to reports, a Chennai resident was burnt to death on Sunday when his car went up in flames after hitting a barrel placed on the road by police near Retteri flyover.

The 35-year-old man, M Dhakshanamoorthy was driving a Maruthi Alto car at high speed at around 3:00 am when the incident happened. The car hit one of the barrels police had placed with barricades on the Jawaharlal Nehru 100 feet road.

Police suggest that the car could have caught fire as he was driving fast and gas from the air-conditioner would have leaked in the impact of the collision. Forensic experts are investigating.
