Madras High Court on Wednesday validated TTV Dhinakaran’s victory in the RK Nagar bypoll, held in December, and dismissed the plea seeking to nullify the victory. The court delivered the verdict after the hearing on a petition filed by an independent MLA named ML Ravi.
Though money up to Rs 30 lakh was seized during the bypoll, there is no proof that it belongs to TTV Dhinakaran, Justice Jayachandran reportedly observed. He also reportedly said that the bypoll was conducted after verification of voters list as per the HC’s order.
It was alleged that voters in the high-profile constituency were distributed huge cash for their votes during the election. TTV Dhinakaran won the bypoll with a huge margin leaving behind the AIADMK and DMK candidates.
