After Koyambedu became the first hotspot in Tamil Nadu's Chennai city, another market is leading its way towards the same path. It is none other than 'Kasimedu Fish Market'! Residents in Chennai are repeating the same mistake that they did for the first time.

Trading Fish and Corona: Kasimedu Fish Market - Next COVID-19 Hotspot?

As per a New Indian Express report, Sunday morning (June 14) thousands of people across the city flocked to the busy fish market. Amid all the caox, social distancing went for a toss.

Ever after the state government announced a ban on retail sale of fish at the wharf area of the harbour, nothing was taken into consideration. Meanwhile, a police official who was on duty at the harbour said, “Patrol vehicles are deployed and several sleuths are involved in spreading awareness about distancing. The fishermen also continuously shout at people. But no one seems to take notice.”

While speaking to fishermen in the market, they said people from Tambaram and Avadi came to Kasimedu. The market witnessed such a crowd after the two-month fishing ban came to an end on June 1.

However, G S Sameeran, Director of the Fisheries Department, stated that the crowd has reduced in recent days, also the wholesale auctioning is conducted in small batches.
