After severe violence on May 22 - the 100th day of the anti-Sterlite protests in Thoothukudi, internet services were shut down in the district and in Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari. While the internet was restored in Nellai and Kanyakumari on May 25, Thoothukudi was kept on hold.
Meeting the press on Sunday, the Director General of Police, K Rajendran reportedly assured that internet services will be restored in Thoothukudi by today and will be properly working from midnight.
The Section 144 that was imposed on Thoothukudi on May 22 also came to an end today.
