The Central Bureau of Investigation reportedly filed a First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the Gutkha scam in Tamil Nadu. It is expected that the agency will soon begin its probe into the scam, in which state health minister C Vijayabaskar and senior police officials including DGP TK Rajendran are allegedly involved.
Earlier, the Madras High Court, on a petition filed by DMK lawmaker J Anbazhagan, transferred the case from Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) to CBI for inquiry. However, Sivakumar, an official with the state health department, appealed to the Supreme Court against the HC’s order. However, the Supreme Court upheld the Madras HC’s order.
Following the order to transfer the case to CBI, DVAC handed over the case files to the central agency. Delhi CBI officials have reportedly filed a case and will soon begin probe into the matter, say reports.
