Reports have emerged that GEM Laboratories, which was awarded a contract by Union government for hydrocarbon exploration in Neduvasal village, has decided to pull out of the project. Hari Prasad, a company spokesperson, reportedly said that the company has written to the Centre seeking an alternative location as the company has not been able to begin the exploration activities for a long time.
People of Neduvasal village have long been protesting against the project saying that it will cause environmental degradation thus affecting the agricultural lands surrounding the project location. Further, a case, filed in the National Green Tribunal against the hydrocarbon project, has been pending.
