Former Tamil Nadu minister K Ponmudi, in an exclusive interview with Behindwoods, explained why DMK working president MK Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi’s political entry is not a politics of inheritance. Udhayanidhi wants to use opportunities to contribute and strengthen the party, the DMK veteran said. “Many people from film industry enter politics using their popularity, why not Udhayanidhi?” he questioned adding, “He has fan clubs. He wants to use the opportunity to strengthen the party. He is more qualified than others (Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan) to enter politics,” and added, "Udhaya grew up in a family with a political background. Why should we ignore his hard work?”.

Further, when asked why MK Stalin was chosen as the party’s working president while there are other members in the party who are seniors to him, Ponmudi explained, “Not all of them can become a leader; There are some scales such as hard work and identity; Thalapathy (MK Stalin) has been in politics since he was only 14; Now, he has been promoted from party’s treasurer to working president.”
