According to reports, a flood alert has been issued to the people living on the banks of Cauvery in Salem district. Reportedly, the Cauvery water gushing from Karnataka has reached such an extent that the entry point is expected to touch 80,000 - 90,000 cusecs on Monday.
The alert was raised by Salem collector Rohini R Bhajibhakare on Sunday morning. Those living on the low-lying areas around Cauvery were advised to move to higher grounds.
Reportedly, the water level in the Mettur dam which stood at 79.45 ft on Saturday, rose to 83.5 ft on Sunday. The collector reportedly said, "Once the level in the Mettur dam reaches 90 ft, a report would be sent to the state government, for the chief minister to take a call on opening sluice gates for release water for irrigation."
