The Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change on Monday formally granted environmental clearance to the India-based Neutrino Observatory project. The project was stalled after environmental activists filed a case alleging that it will deplete the groundwater and cause environmental degradation. Meanwhile, environmental activists have opposed the clearance saying it is illegal. Sundar Rajan of Poovulagin Nanbargal, an environmental NGO, in a Facebook post, said, “This clearance is Ilegal, as it has violated the established laws of this country and a categorical order of NGT.”
