Eggs meant for mid-day meal sold in Chennai markets

TOI reports that eggs meant for supply to children at noon meal centres and the integrated child development services (ICDS) scheme are being pilfered and sold in the open market and retail shops bearing the seal of the Tamil Nadu government on them.

When questioned, officials dismissed it as a diversion but activists are seeing red and doubt black market sale.

However, shopkeepers that the newspaper spoke to told them that they had procured the eggs from wholesale dealers.
