A van from Pondicherry was travelling to Thiruvannamalai carrying crackers for Diwali. As the vehicle was on Tindivanam-Gingee road, the driver and cleaner noticed smoke in the van.
They stopped the vehicle and went to check on it. Suddenly, the crackers started to explode. Reportedly, the villagers tried to douse the flames by pouring water.
However, two died from the cracker explosion and 5 were critically injured. Fire fighters soon rushed to the spot and doused the flames. Police has filed a case and investigation is on.
