According to reports, Chennai will be getting water during the times of distress from a new reservoir, in Cuddalore if the 950-acre reservoir in the district becomes a reality.
The new reservoir is coming up on lands owned by a few of the State government departments, near the Neyveli mines.
Though the main aim of the reservoir is to help in containing water during the times of flood, it is also expected to supply water to Chennai during water shortage. Currently, water to Chennai is supplied from Veeranam lake in Cuddalore district other than the four major reservoirs on the outskirts of the city.
