The Karur court on Monday reportedly passed an order summoning BJP functionary S Ve Shekher to appear before it in person on June 5. The court passed the order on a petition filed by a Republican Party of India functionary in connection with Shekher’s Facebook post. The post contained obscene remarks about women journalists in Tamil Nadu and sparked widespread outrage in the state.
A case has been pending against the BJP functionary in the Madras High Court in connection with the social media post. Earlier the HC had rejected Shekher’s petition seeking anticipatory bail with scornful observations.
Earlier, S Ve Shekher claimed that he shared the content from his friend without reading it and apologised for the same. However, journalists held protests against him and demanded his arrest. The HC, while hearing his anticipatory bail petition, observed that S Ve Shekher is not a child to be pardoned.
