The Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Egmore on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to BJP politician S Ve Shekher. He was also ordered to appear again before the court on July 18. The actor-turned-politician got the relief in connection with a case filed against him for sharing a post on Facebook which had derogatory remarks against women journalists in Tamil Nadu.

Earlier the court had issued a summon asking S Ve Shekher to appear before it on June 20 after the Supreme Court rejected his plea seeking anticipatory bail. Following which, he appeared before the court on Wednesday with police security.

The post, which he shared on Facebook on April 19, triggered a controversy and journalists in the state began protests demanding his arrest. While earlier reports emerged that he was absconding, senior AIADMK leaders assured that he’ll be arrested sooner.
