A seven-year-old boy who was forced to beg on the roads was adopted by a childless couple from Mettupalayam, Coimbatore on Wednesday. The boy was reportedly rescued in May 2017 after he was found begging.
Reportedly, the boy's actual parents had died and he was forced into begging. A shop owner informed the local police who took the issue to the district child protection unit (DCPO). He was taken to a registered home on May 10, 2017.
The couple who had adopted him married 17 years ago and was still childless. The couple had registered with Child Adoption Resource Information and Guidance System (CARINGS) through which they found their future son. They met with the boy and adopted him.
The adoption agency will reportedly visit the family once every six months to check on the understanding levels between the couple and the child. The DCPO is hopeful that this will motivate more couples to adopt children.
