A 40-year-old woman who goes by the name Bhuvaneshwari was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Kunjurpathy-Mankuzhi route near Coimbatore. Bhuvaneshwari, her husband Prasath and his friends Vijayakumar, Rameshkumar, Arunan, Sakthi, Mohammed Akmal and Kathiravan trekked the forest region on Sunday (January 19) when the horrible incident happened.

Bhuvaneshwari and her team reached  Palamalai in two cars around 6 am on Sunday. They parked the car by the roadside and trekked to Aranganathar temple that is located 4 km away. Then they continued trekking via Kunjurpathy-Mankuzhi route at 7.30 am.

At one point a gigantic wild elephant appeared in front of the group and began charging them. The members in the group parted ways and ran in different directions. Unfortunately, the elephant caught the sight of Bhuvaneshwari and trampled her to death.

S Suresh the Range officer of Perianaickenpalayam and team arrived at the spot, recovered the body and sent to Coimbatore Government Hospital to get the autopsy report. According to TOI report, Suresh and team had already alerted the Tribals in Kunjurpathy and Mankuzhi about the rogue tusker.

Moreover, Bhuvaneshwari and team did not get any permission for the trekking. The Perianaickenpalayam police have registered an FIR under Section 174 of the CrPC.  Bhuvaneshwari is survived by her husband Prasath and two children, Navaneeth and Navya.
