Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsChennai’s Neighbouring districts continue to be affected by the coronavirus outburst in Koyambedu cluster. The COVID19 cases in Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur were under lesser earlier. The surge in number of cases is being linked to the market.
As of Tuesday, Chengalpattu reported 391 cases and Tiruvallur reported 467 cases. Both of these districts had fewer cases earlier.
Chengalpattu had reported 86 cases and Tiruvallur had reported 61 cases as of MAY 1.
“Till Monday, Tiruvallur district had a total of 440 cases. Of these, 211 persons are linked to the Koyambedu cluster. Of them, 136 are index cases — vendors who had visited Koyambedu; as many as 58 are their primary contacts, i.e., their household contacts, and 17 are secondary contacts,” an official told The Hindu.
Reportedly, the number of containment zones were also lesser prior to the outbreak at Koyambedu cluster. However, after the incident, contact tracing has been carried to find people linked to the market and test them for the virus.
As per media reports, officials continue to say that the strengthened surveillance in border areas and picking up cases such as Influenza- like illness and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection from containment zones as well as disinfecting is helping in keeping the situation under control.
