Students of the government high school in Velliagaram, Tiruvallur, began to protest after they came to know about the transfer of their favourite teacher. The students were in tears and hugged the  28-year-old English teacher when he tried to exit the school gates on Wednesday, say reports.

The teacher, Bhagawan, shared a close bond with the students in his four years of association with the school. Saying that he has been like a brother to them, the students say that the teacher has helped them to hone their skills and prepare for competitive exams.

Reports suggest that the parents also support the students in their protest against the transfer of the teacher. Based on the requests from students and parents to retain the teacher, A Aravind, the principal of the school, reportedly said that he submitted a representation to the education department officials.

Stating that Bhagawan is one of the best teachers they have, Aravind added that the teacher would arrange food for students during special classes after school hours. He was quoted as saying, “The students too are very affectionate by nature… but this time even parents got emotional.”

However, the education department officials reportedly said that the transfer needs to be carried out as required by the usual deployment.
