A 23-year-old doctor serving at the Stanley Medical College and Hospital was on Sunday attacked by a 80-year-old patient's 75-year-old attender all because the doctor tried to prick a vein with a needle during the course of which the patient claimed to be under immense pain.

After the attender Jayachandran slapped the duty doctor, security rushed to his aide while other junior doctors from the hospital held a sit-in protest demanding better security to medical professionals from angry kith and kin of patients.
