According to reports, Naam Tamilar chief co-ordinator Seeman has been arrested in Parapatti of Salem district when he was on his way to meet the farmers, who were affected due to Tamil Nadu’s Chennai-Salem expressway project. A commotion was created in the area following his arrest.

While the government claims that the Rs 10,000 crore project will be a ‘game changer’ for the economy of Tamil Nadu’s central districts, activists and farmers claim that the agricultural lands will be lost due to the project.

The government’s clampdown on those who opposed the project began on the third week of June when environment activist Piyush Manush and actor Mansoor Ali Khan were arrested for acting against the project. Student-activist Valarmathi was also arrested later.
