BJP politician S Ve Shekher appeared before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Egmore on Wednesday morning after the court had issued a summon ordering him to appear before it on June 20. He was summoned in connection with a post that he shared on Facebook. The post contained derogatory remarks against women journalists in Tamil Nadu.
The city police filed a case against the actor-turned-politician based on a complaint by a journalists’ association. Shekher had shared the post on April 19 following a controversy after Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit patted on the cheek of a woman journalist.
The BJP politician moved Supreme Court after the Madras High Court turned down his plea seeking anticipatory bail. However, the apex court refused to grant anticipatory bail and asked him to approach Egmore court for regular bail.
