The police in the Greater Chennai Corporation will work in two shifts in the nights till June 30 following the recent spate of incidents involving robberies. Police personnel will work between 10 pm and 4 am for the first shift and the second shift is scheduled between 4 am and 8 am. Apart from the provisional change in the shifts, the police will also continue night patrolling.


Police on Monday night held an operation in the city and conducted a vehicle check in various parts. About 9,748 vehicles including 1,226 cars, 1,193 autos and 7,329 two-wheelers underwent vehicle check on Monday night.


The reports of robberies and thefts have been on the rise in the city for the past couple of weeks. Police are now involved in damage control mode to nab the offenders.
