In a chilling incident, a 23-year-old man, Ajith was arrested on Wednesday after he confessed to the murder of a 19-year-old nurse in Chennai. Ajith, who quit his job, wanted to buy ‘birthday gift’ to his wife and he allegedly did not have money for the same.

So he wanted to borrow money from the victim, who is his wife’s friend and asked her to pledge her gold chain to give him money.  Since she denied to give him money, he allegedly strangled her with her dupatta and killed her on April 6 in Choolaimedu.

He later stuffed the body in a sack and disposed of it in a vacant land in Koyambedu after stealing her gold chain worth Rs 34,000, a smartphone and her anklet.

On the other hand, police were reportedly searching for the victim after her father lodged a complaint with police about his missing daughter. During the interrogation, Ajith tried to mislead police saying that the woman might have eloped as she was on her phone always.

Suspected by his behavior, police inquired him, after which he confessed to the crime. The accused has been arrested and taken into police custody.
