Officials Hint at a ‘Smart Lockdown’ for TN After June 30, What is ‘Smart Lockdown’? Check Here!

Currently, Chennai, kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Madurai and Theni are under a complete lockdown. However, this ends on June 30 but the panel which will come together today will analyse the numbers from each of these districts. Depending upon the same, a decision is to be taken.

According to the government officials, an affected street and those streets which are adjacent to it, might go under a smart lockdown to curb the spread of the virus.

A ‘smart’ lockdown is essentially what was imposed in Triplicane, Chennai around late April. After a sudden sprout of cases, the lane was shut and only very essential services were allowed to function. After a month, the streets were opened and no new case were reported for over two weeks. Such containment measures were also undertaken in other affected zones such as Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, KK Salai in MGR, the officials added.

Hence, Chennai could witness around 12,000 streets – one main street and 20 streets adjacent to it, to be shut in the coming days. Similarly, other worst-hit districts can also anticipate this move.

On June 28, Tamil Nadu reported 3,713 cases, where Chennai constituted 1,939 cases.
