Due to the increase in the population of street dogs, the Greater Chennai Corporation has decided to develop a mobile app to keep a check on the number. The app will reportedly help the Corporation maintain an exact number of street dogs and also the area-wise concentration, age, gender and reproductive ability.

Veterinary officer Kamal Hussain said, "Every day we get more than 40 complaints on stray dogs. Despite the animal birth control programme, the dog population seems to be increasing by the year. So we decided to take it up scientifically and planned to come up with the application.”

The Health Department has already implemented it as a pilot project in Teynampet, Royapuram and Shollinganallur. With administrative sanction, it will be launched in three more zones.
