Chennai Corporation’s revenue department recently released the Standard Operating Procedure for small places of worship to reopen and resume operations.

A state government order which was released on August 8 stated that small temples with income of less than Rs 10,000 and small mosques, churches and other places of worship will be permitted to operate and perform regular rituals. 

According to the guidelines issued by govt., religious places are supposed to be disinfected thrice a day, install hand wash facilities along with soap dispensers should be placed at the entrances and prayers as well as rituals should be performed while maintaining social distancing.

Further, the distribution of food in places of worship will not be allowed and the premises should not be used for accommodation.  "The opening and closing timings of religious places shall be displayed at the entrance," the statement said.

The management of these places can apply for permission to operate places of worship through Chennai corporation’s website www.chennaicorporation.gov.in.

"The application will be scrutinized and permission will be granted through online. The permission obtained from the authority should be displayed visibly and must be shown to the inspecting officer," according to a statement from the civic body.
