Sujith Wilson, a 2-year-old boy fromm Trichy, Tamil Nadu, fell into an abandoned borewell on Friday. After over 80 hours of rescue, he was declared dead and his body was retrieved.

However, his body was not shown to the public and was completely covered. This led to various speculations and people raised questions.

Speaking to the press, Radhakrishnan who oversaw the rescue operation said that "the rescue team is saddened as despite working hard, they are facing criticism. Sujith's parents were aware of his rescue process."

"It is rules to treat moral remains of a person with respect and dignity. So, following that, his body was rescued. Rescue process when one is alive and when one is dead will differ," he continued.

"The rules layed by state and central government for displaying the dead bodies of people who died in natural calamities or accident or war is what has been followed. Showcasing the dead body is against the rules," he explained.

Earlier, when we showed the bodies of the children dead in Kumbakonam school fire, we faced severe backlash globally. Hence, we didn't show his body," he said.

He also rubbished the WhatsApp forward which says that crores has been spent in his rescue. He said that this is an accident and not a disaster and that it was unfortunate that he was not rescued alive. He also said that they tried all ways possible to rescue him.
