Namma Chennai which is battling a grave water crisis, and humid climate witnessed rainfall in some areas on Thursday. Chennai experienced its first rainfall after 195 days of zero rainfall, bringing some relief to the city that has been ravaged by a heatwave for the past ten days.

Areas such as Tambaram, Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), East Coast Road (ECR), Padur, Kelambakkam, Siruseri and Navalur experienced light showers today afternoon. The Tamil Nadu Weatherman has predicted Chennai to expect rains over the next six days.

According to Indian Express report, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the Tamil Nadu capital will receive further rains accompanied by thunderstorm today. Meanwhile, with the progression of the monsoon, IMD predicted heavy rainfall in parts of south and northeast states. Kerala, south Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Konkan and Goa, and Telangana are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall today.

In the northeast, Assam, Meghalaya, West Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, along with West Bengal and Odisha will also experience a damp day.

Heatwave conditions are likely to persist over isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Vidarbha, parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam, the IMD said.
