The accused was working for textile showrooms located in Thanjavur. The minor girl is a native of Thiruverumbur in Trichy.
Reportedly, the Victim moved to Valappakudi with her family in 2018. When Balraj went to Valappakudi, he saw the girl and decided to get married to her. He convinced the girl’s family and married her despite her objection to the wedding. The wedding took place in a relative’s home in Pudukottai.
Allegedly, since they got married, the 13- year- old girl was sexual assaulted by the accused every day. As per media reports, he also forced the girl to lodge attept ot rape complaints against people he had built enmity with. On refusing to do so, he threatened to kill her.
Balraj again got married to the minor girl on March 22, under the marriage assistance scheme (a part of Late CM Jayalalitha’s birthday celebrations). He did this in order to get gold and utensils for free. According to Times of India’s report, the couple moved back to Mettupatti after this.
On Monday, the girl managed to escape from the house and went to report to the police. Her relatives helped in filing a complaint against Balram to the police. He was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.
