In a sad and shocking case, at least 19 people have died in a bus accident in Tamil Nadu's Tirupur city in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The horrific accident took place on the Coimbatore highway where a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) collided with a container truck at around 4:30 am. 

According to India Today reports, the truck was moving on the wrong side of the road when the incident took place. Currently, all the injured people have been taken to different hospitals near to the accident site and the number of the dead is likely to increase. 

Hours after the accident, State Transport Minister AK Saseendran told reporters that  the Kerala government-run Volvo bus with seat over 50 people was going to Ernakulam from Bengaluru in Karnataka. 

Few photos which are currently going viral, shows the right side of the bus to be completely mangled, especially the driver's area is all smashed. The damaged bus is also tilted to one side. 

Most of the casualties in the accident are residents of Palakkad, Thrissur and Ernakulam, Kerala Transport Minister further said.

Meanwhile, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has assured to provide emergency medical care to the victims of the accident. "All possible relief measures will be taken in cooperation with the government of Tamil Nadu and the District Collector of Tirupur," Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's office said.
