Sunil Gavaskar's comment on the late former Australian spinner Shane Warne has caused controversy.

Sunil Gavaskar slammed for his comment on Shane Warne

Former Australian star cricketer Shane Warne died of a sudden heart attack. He was considered as one of the greatest spinners in the history of cricket. Several cricketers including Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Ricky Ponting and Virat Kohli have mourned the death of Shane Warne. Many fans have been paying their tributes praising Shane Warne's bowling style on social media.

Meanwhile, a comment from former India captain Sunil Gavaskar did not go well. He said that Shane Warne was a moderate spinner when compared to Muttiah Muralitharan. "No, I wouldn’t say that no. For me the Indian spinners and Muttiah Muralitharan were better than Shane Warne,” Sunil said.

Sunil Gavaskar faces backlash over comment on Shane Warne

“Look at Shane Warne’s record against India. It was pretty ordinary. In India, he got five wickets only once in Nagpur, and that too because Zaheer Khan swung wildly against him to give him a fifer. Because he did not have much success against Indian players who were very good players of spin, I don’t think I would call him the greatest," said Gavaskar.

He added, “Muttiah Muralitharan with a greater success he had against India, I would rank him over Warne in my book.” Cricket fans have been criticizing Sunil Gavaskar for commenting in this way and that too at this particular time.
