Former star cricketer avoids jail, taken to mental health hospital - details!

A former Australian cricketer has been ordered by a court to go to a mental health hospital.

Michael Slater, a former Australian opener, played in 74 Tests and 42 ODIs from 1993 to 2001. He has since retired from cricket and is working as a commentator.

It was in this context that Michael Slater was arrested by police last October on charges of domestic violence. He was accused of sending personal calls and messages to his ex-wife.

The Waverley court, which heard the case, refused to sentence Michael Slater to life in prison. But the court ordered him to seek counseling in the mental health ward for three weeks.

Michael Slater has already seen five separate psychiatrists. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reports that he has been receiving treatment at various mental health centers for more than 100 days. Michael Slater's stay in psychiatric court in domestic violence case has caused a stir in Australian cricket circles.
