Pollard made his international debut for the West Indies in 2007. He has played 196 innings for the country so far. He scored 4275 runs and took 97 wickets. He has also played in world-class leagues.
Pollard is currently playing for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. He is the next key player in the team after the captain Rohit Sharma. He also has a fan base in India. In this situation Pollard announced his sudden retirement from international cricket. This came as a bit of a shock to cricket fans.
Many former cricketers are now bidding farewell to Pollard's retirement. West Indies cricket legend Chris Gayle tweeted about it, "Can’t believe you retired before me @KieronPollard55. Anyway-Congratulations on your international career…it was great playing alongside you. Happy Retirement…All the best in your next chapter."
Similarly, West Indies all-rounder Sunil Narine said, “It’s sad, I think he has much more to give to West Indies, but I think he himself has to know when it's time, and that’s what is important."
