With Dhoni retired from Test matches, who wears number 7 jersey?
Home > News Shots > Sports newsFor the first time, players' names and numbers feature in their white jerseys. With no Dhoni in the team it was expected to see if the number is being allotted to anybody else. Dhoni announced his retirement from test cricket in 2014.
The official pictures of players wearing new white jersey were released. Nobody were wearing Dhoni's number 7 jersey. Already Sachin's number 10 jersey was "unofficially retired" by the BCCI.
Briefly, pacer Shardul Thakur wore number 10 and was heavily trolled. No Indian player wears number 10 jersey out of respect for his contribution to the sport. The same is expected for Dhoni as well.
"Since MS is no longer playing Test cricket, jersey No.7 is available but there is very little chance that any of the players will wear it ... People relate jersey No 7 with MS," a senior BCCI official said to Hindustan Times.
There were also requests to retire Number 12 jersey worn by Yuvraj Singh when he announced his retirement.
