"We are moving on from MS Dhoni and backing Pant," Says Chief Selector
Home > News Shots > Sports newsAfter Sourav Ganguly took charge as the BCCI President, he assured to speak to the selectors regarding M.S. Dhoni's future. But seems like chief selector M.S.K. Prasad is very clear about his decision and priorities.
When he was asked about the concerned matter Prasad said that they are looking to move ahead.
While announcing the squad for the series against Bangladesh, Prasad said "We are moving on, we are very clear. Post World Cup we have been clear. We started backing (Rishabh) Pant and wanted to see him do well. He may not have had the best of matches but we are clear, we are focusing on him only".
"We're looking at younger options after the World Cup, so you can understand our thought process. We definitely had a chat with Dhoni and he also endorses our view of backing youngsters," he added.
Earlier in the week, Ganguly stated that Dhoni's decision will be respected no matter what. "I don't know what's in his mind. India is very proud to have M.S. Dhoni. Till I am around everybody will be respected. Dhoni's achievements make India proud," Ganguly said.
Further commenting on wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson's inclusion, Prasad asserted that we are focusing on him as a middle-order batsman and not as a second wicket-keeper.
